Herford location

The Herford location was opened by Yekmal e.V. in May 2021. At the location, we want to strengthen immigrants, especially those with a migration background, with our services and projects and make it easier for them to participate in social life in Herford.Since the beginning of our work in Herford, Yekmal e.V. has been represented in various municipal networks and exchanges ideas about diversity, needs and anti-discrimination with both civil and municipal stakeholders. Our goal is the local visibility of migrant communities, especially Kurdish communities. Who are these people, what cultures do they bring with them and what needs do they have in order to make cultural diversity in Herford visible themselves or with their families and thus promote participation in local social life.

Our location is therefore an important point of contact for all people who are interested in our services and projects. We have been offering low-threshold advice and support since the beginning of our work.In German, Kurdish (Kurmanci and Sorani), Arabic, Turkish and English, we support individuals and families with written applications on various topics or accompany them during visits to the authorities, meetings with parents at school or daycare, consultations with specialists and other important appointments. We also regularly offer language/women's cafés, which provide a safe place to meet.The meetings are designed to meet participants where they are linguistically and give them the opportunity to speak German without fear.

In OWL, we have been offering multilingual outpatient help and family support in the Herford - Bielefeld - Lippe districts since 2024.Tailored to the needs of our community, we moved our office to the Radewig/Herford district in the summer of 2024 and have created rooms with their own seminar room, counseling/office space, children's play corner and kitchen where all visitors feel comfortable.
