Yekmal e.V. was founded on May 9, 1993 by Kurdish parents, teachers and social workers in Berlin. The association grew rapidly in the first few years and was able to move into its own premises in Kreuzberg. With the introduction of Kurdish courses for children in the year 2000 and the first symposium in 2009, Yekmal e.V. laid the foundation for its current educational and networking work. In 2014, the association opened the first bilingual Kurdish daycare center in Europe, followed by the founding of the Yekmal Academy in 2019.
Function and role
The Berlin office of Yekmal e.V. forms the core of the organization and houses both the head office and the administration. This central role enables Yekmal e.V. to effectively coordinate its diverse educational and advisory services and to provide targeted support for the needs of the Kurdish and migrant community.
Services and focus
Yekmal e.V. Berlin offers a wide range of educational and counseling services. The focus is on promoting multilingualism, supporting families with a migration background and combating discrimination. The services include:
Team and facilities
The Yekmal e.V. Berlin team consists of qualified professionals and volunteers who work closely together to ensure the best possible support for the families. These include social workers, psychologists, educators, social scientists, linguists and career changers. This interaction considerably strengthens the association's work and contributes significantly to the fulfillment of our goals.
Cooperation and networks
Yekmal e.V. Berlin cooperates intensively with various institutions, facilities and networks in order to further develop its own services and pool resources. Representatives of the association are active in numerous subject-specific committees. This networking enables us to address the needs of our target groups even better and develop sustainable solutions in the long term. The multilingual BEFaN network enables us to collaborate with migrant self-organizations, administration and politicians. Regular conferences and workshops promote and consolidate exchange and networking with other stakeholders in education and integration work.
Location and accessibility
Yekmal e.V. has a broad base in Berlin and has several locations strategically distributed throughout the city. The central office and administration are located in the city center of Kreuzberg, other facilities are located in districts such as Neukölln, Tempelhof, Wilmersdorf and Mitte. This decentralized structure allows us to work close to the recipients of our services and ensure better accessibility for families from different parts of Berlin. All our locations are well connected to the public transport network and offer easily accessible, inviting premises.
