Inpatient parenting support

Since November 2023, Yekmal e.V. Berlin has been offering inpatient help in accordance with §34 SGB VIII. Specifically, the work takes place in the area of supervised youth housing. The focus here is on unaccompanied refugee minors. The work in inpatient child and youth welfare services in accordance with Section 34 SGB VIII provides a safe and stable environment for underage refugees who have arrived in Germany without their parents or guardians. At this facility, the young people receive support in coping with their traumatic experiences, learning German and integrating into society. The qualified specialist staff work closely with the young people to identify their individual needs and provide them with the best possible support. Educational measures, various offers and social activities help the refugees to build confidence, strengthen their self-esteem and develop prospects for their future.

Inpatient help is offered in facilities such as residential groups. The tasks include, among other things:

  • Care and education: providing a protected environment for the development of children and young people.
  • Educational support: Support with school matters and promotion of individual talents.
  • Social integration: Promoting contact with peers and integration into society.
  • Aftercare: Supporting the transition to an independent life after the stay.

General goals

  • Ensuring the child's welfare in crisis situations.
  • Stabilization of emotional and social development.
  • Preparation for an independent life.
  • Reintegration into the family or social environment, if possible.

Our only residential group in Berlin at present, the Dîwan residential group, is a shared flat with supervision-free periods. The young people are aged between 16 and 18. Yekmal e.V. attaches particular importance to offering young people a temporary home where they can feel safe and where they receive the support they need to come to terms with their past and find new hope for their lives. The residential group is located in the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district. There are 6 young people living in the shared flat.
