Verein der Eltern aus Kurdistan in Deutschland e.V. (Yekmal e.V.) is an independent non-profit organization and migrant self-organization in Germany. The association provides youth welfare services, runs bilingual kindergartens and is involved in education, language and research. One focus is on promoting the Kurdish language and culture as well as multilingual language development.
Yekmal e.V. was founded in Berlin on May 9, 1993. Since then, the association has become an integral part of social structures in Berlin and beyond. Yekmal has been operating nationwide since 2020 and is active in four federal states.
Yekmal e.V. is committed to the participation of families with a migration biography, the promotion of multilingualism and the fight against discrimination. The association promotes equal and inclusive coexistence and strengthens the political participation of migrants.
Yekmal e.V. is active in Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Bremen. At all locations, the association offers educational and counseling services for migrant and especially Kurdish families.
Yekmal e.V. works for an open, diverse and inclusive society. The association strengthens democratic processes and social cohesion so that people with a history of migration and flight can lead a self-determined and equal life in Germany.

The association Yekmal e.V. was founded in 1993 by Kurdish parents and teachers in Berlin. The participation of parents with a migration background and the promotion of multilingual and native-language education were and still are the central goals of the association.
The Yekmal Academy for Language, Education and Research is an educational and research institute that focuses on multilingualism and education. Founded in 2019 as part of Yekmal e.V. and operating as a gGmbH since 2024, the academy offers professional programs and services in the following areas:
- Multilingualism
- Certification of language skills
- Material development
- Further training for teachers and educators
- Language courses and translation services
The Academy also conducts research on various aspects of language and education from a transdisciplinary perspective and develops practical solutions.
The BEFaN (Bildung-Eltern-Familie-Nachbarschaft) network is a Berlin-wide specialist network that was founded as part of the BEFaN project in 2014.
Over time, the network has developed into an indispensable player in Berlin's migration and education policy landscape. It consists of migrant organizations, educational institutions, experts and relevant specialist administrations at district and senate level as well as other stakeholders in the field of multilingualism.
