Support center against violence and discrimination

Since August 1, 2024, Yekmal e.V. Berlin has been commissioned by the Neukölln Youth Welfare Office to set up a support center against violence and discrimination in Neukölln. The support center against violence and discrimination is aimed at all Neukölln residents who are affected by various forms of discrimination. Here, children, young people and adults from Neukölln, with and without a history of flight and migration, receive low-threshold initial and referral advice in Kurdish, German, Arabic, English, Spanish and Turkish. In addition, multipliers are supported in their professional work. We plan information evenings, further training and professional networking.

The support center will work closely with the Neukölln registration office. The aim of this cooperation is to record more incidents of discrimination in Neukölln and make them visible. In future, the discrimination reports from the support center against violence and discrimination will be included in the data collection of the Register Neukölln.

An overview of the categories of discrimination at the Neukölln support center:

  • Racism and anti-Kurdish racism
  • anti-Semitism
  • LGBTIQ* hostility
  • Socio-economic status
  • Ableism: hostility towards people with disabilities
  • Right-wing extremism
  • Gender

In the long term, we want to establish ourselves as a support center for Neukölln residents on how to better deal with discrimination. In addition, we want to establish a specialist network for multipliers and social institutions in order to jointly develop strategies for protection against discrimination.
