The Pîya daycare center is the first bilingual Kurdish-German kindergarten in the world. Due to the great interest and the needs of the parents, Yekmal e. V. was founded. The daycare center was officially founded in 2014. We now have two daycare centers in Berlin.
The name “Pîya” comes from the Kurdish/Zazakî language and means “together” or “together”, which emphasizes the integrative and collaborative approach of our educational work.
All projects are planned simultaneously in both languages and within the respective groups together with the children, adapted to their interests and needs. In this way, all eight educational areas are comprehensively covered. The participatory projects promote the children's ability to learn independently. By working together, the children learn to interact in groups with their peers and develop creative, valuable concepts. Depending on their interests, new topics emerge. Children learn consideration and acceptance by interacting with each other and designing projects.
A central pedagogical goal is to promote children's self-confidence and support them in their development. The learning processes and the acquisition of the educational areas are crucial for them to discover their world and develop further. The duration of the project depends on the children's interests and can be adapted flexibly. After completion, the projects are reflected on together. There are no fixed end times, as this is an open learning process; the conclusion is determined in a participatory process with the children.
Our bilingual German-Kurdish daycare centers are an important part of our society because they actively promote diversity and interculturality. They offer children from all over the world, regardless of their cultural background, a place to learn and grow. They are particularly valuable for children from Kurdish families as they help them to preserve their cultural identity while integrating into a diverse society. By teaching the German and Kurdish language and culture through play, the daycare centers support the children's identity development and create a respectful environment in which they can learn from each other. This intercultural exchange strengthens understanding and respect for cultural diversity and promotes social cohesion. In this way, our daycare centers contribute to harmonious coexistence in a pluralistic society.
