Kindergarten Pîya Wedding

Kita Piya Wedding is the world's first bilingual Kurdish-German kindergarten - located in the heart of colorful Wedding and founded at the request of the parents. The initiative of the parents and the organization Yekmal e.V. gave rise to our daycare center in 2014, which has since lovingly cared for 25 children aged 1 to 6 until they start school. In our family atmosphere, tucked away in a charming backyard, all children and families are welcome - regardless of origin, language or cultural background. Our educational approach and our rooms

Our educational work is based on the Berlin Educational Program and the situational approach, which focuses on the children. In our kindergarten, children can explore the world playfully, curiously and with joy according to their own needs and wishes. The two-storey building accommodates two permanent groups: We look after 10 children on the lower floor and 15 on the upper floor.

A special highlight is our own front garden, which is used exclusively for our kindergarten. There, the children have a large sandy area where they can dig and be creative to their heart's content. Our numerous bobby cars, two-wheelers and tricycles provide plenty of exercise. A climbing frame also invites the children to climb and move around, allowing them to strengthen their motor skills in a playful way.

The location of the kindergarten between Rehberge Park and Schillerpark offers further opportunities to discover nature. In Rehberge Park, we regularly go on hikes and excursions that stimulate the children's spirit of discovery. The Schillerpark has numerous playgrounds and a large paddling area in summer, offering plenty of space for fun and exercise. Here, the children enjoy the freedom to let off steam and spend their day in the great outdoors.

Our bilingual and intercultural concept:

Language is the key to the world and in our kindergarten we open the doors to a diverse, multilingual and intercultural environment for the children. Our bilingual concept enriches the children not only linguistically, but also culturally, as they come into contact with two languages and cultures every day. Here, the children experience the diversity of the world at first hand and learn to move safely and openly in a multicultural society.

Our teaching staff are deeply rooted in both cultures and have extensive experience and skills from both language worlds. With the immersion model “One language, one person”, two educational professionals accompany the children in each group: one speaks Kurdish, the other German. The entire kindergarten routine is thus designed and lived in both languages. Our materials are also bilingual, so that the children can discover everything from books and games to learning materials in both languages.  

We attach particular importance to carefully reviewing and selecting our materials and books. We regularly analyze our content to avoid discriminatory or prejudiced representations and focus on materials that promote diversity, tolerance and inclusion. Our aim is to offer children an environment that is free of prejudice and in which they learn through play to see the world from different perspectives. In this way, they become open, respectful and self-confident individuals who appreciate the diversity of our society.

School preparation

As early as one year before starting school, all children are individually monitored and their development recorded through targeted, professional observations. This support makes it possible to understand each child's stage of development and identify specific needs. On this basis, it is determined in which areas the child can still receive targeted support in order to be best prepared for the start of school.

To support the pre-school work, an external colleague from Verein Yekmal, who specializes in supporting children of pre-school age, comes in every week. The colleague works specifically on the children's individual development goals and makes a significant contribution to their preparation for school. In addition, the pedagogical staff are specifically assigned to work with school-age children and support the children in the relevant areas as part of their daily kindergarten routine. This ensures comprehensive and tailored preparation for the start of school.

Healthy nutrition

Our in-house kitchen prepares fresh meals every day, including breakfast and lunch. Dishes from two different cultures are integrated to ensure a varied and diverse diet. All meals are prepared in accordance with the guidelines of the German Nutrition Society (DGE) to ensure a balanced and healthy diet.
